TM44 inspections highlighted by top law firm
Top law firms and temperature control specialists have teamed up to warn businesses to make sure their air conditioning systems meet standards set down in UK law by carrying out a TM44 inspection.
Paris Smith, the commercial law firm, and temperature control specialists ICS Cool Energy are keen to inform companies that a TM44 inspection is essential for air conditioning units with an output above 12kw.
Air conditioning units should be checked every 5 years.
16,323 air conditioning reports have been submitted, but there are many thousands of UK companies that could be in breach of the regulations.
TM44 inspections were set up as part of a government initiative under the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive in an attempt to increase the energy efficiency of buildings.
Sarah Wheadon, Partner and Head of the Regulatory and Business Crime team at Paris Smith LLP, said: “Effective and proportionate compliance with the law where buildings are concerned can have many benefits, including saving money, improving not only existing maintenance and repair regimes but also the health and safety of occupants…”
TM44 inspection reports include; a documentation review, comparison of maintenance with industry best practice, an inspection of system components and an assessment of controls and settings.
They also take cover an estimation of cooling load, a review of improvements and alternatives and reports findings and advice.
