London residents up in arms over neighbour’s air conditioning plans
‘Rich Kids of Russia’ star wants to install “ industrial estate” style air conditioning in her Notting Hill home
Notting Hill residents have spoken out about their anger as their neighbour’s plans to install air conditioning units “fit for an industrial estate” have been recommended for approval by town hall bosses.
Giovanni Santoro, 26, an Italian football agent, and his Russian girlfriend, Galina Genis, 27, bought the Victorian house in the affluent Notting Hill area for £2.85million. Since then, they have carried out expensive renovation work throughout the property, including a new basement area complete with a sauna, gym and cinema room.
The planning permission for this renovation work was approved without any complaints from neighbouring homeowners, but the glamorous couples’ new air conditioning plans have been labelled “intolerable” by some frustrated residents, who have had enough of the constant “banging and drilling”.
Ms Genis recently featured as one of the ‘Rich Kids of Russia’ for a tabloid newspaper feature and can often be seen driving around London with her boyfriend in the couple’s gold-plated Bentley Continental GT.
The young couple submitted their application for the air conditioning installation last year but it was met with fierce opposition from some of their neighbours, who claim that the cooling units look “like something you’d expect in a commercial unit”.
Santoro and his girlfriend have now submitted a revised application, which states that the pair are aiming to “improve the liveability of the dwelling” and will enclose the units in wooden cases to ensure against noise pollution. It is expected to be approved by officials but a final decision will be made on Tuesday.
